- The GT coach made an interesting statement in the last day or two. He said the bowl game against Iowa (in progress) is extremely important for next year because the preseason ranking, in large part, makes it possible for a conf. champ to parley that into a national title shot.

- TCU would not have played 'Bama in the event of a Horns loss. It would have been the Bearcats. They were undefeated and their conference is "tougher" than the WAC or the MWC. That's how they pick 'em- the two conference champs from the two toughest conferences.

- Give Utah a roster of football players that, with the exception of one or two players, would have been incapable of making the team as walk-ons for 'Bama's program.

- I think we can all agree that last night, the team that owned the Pac-10 champ earlier in the season went on to own the team that owned a very good conference that, aside from TCU in this very game, owned every bowl game it was given by a crappy BCS system.

- Hey, you know which conference had the most FCS teams on their schedule this year (and the last several) and the fewest away games against strong out-of-conference opponents over the last 10-plus years? That's right, the SEC. And they usually play bowl games close to home, too.

- I was one of those people who loved what BSU did in their last Fiesta Bowl appearance but didn't believe they could play with TCU. It looks like I was wrong. It's a good reminder of why they play the game.
